Recipe Time! Smoothie inside)


What a beautiful morning! I’m here looking out my window for a few minutes before I get to work (yes, even on a Sunday) and I just had to take a moment. My country is beautiful in the simplest yet most touching ways and that’s one of the things I love about Jamaica. Anyway, I made a promise to myself recently to start posting at least once a week, despite my schedule or whatever else is going on, and so far I’ve missed three weeks already! The good news is the other post I should have done from my last road trip weeks ago will also be posted this week.

Clearly this needs to be amended, especially as I had promised a few friends to share my banana smoothie recipe. As some of you already know, I love smoothies and I like to make them as nutritious as possible since I’m perennially burnt out I work really hard, and my body tends to need troubleshooting as a result. So without further ado, my banana power smoothie in three steps.

Banana Power Smoothie



6 (almost overripe) ripe bananas
1 tsp tumeric powder
1/4 tsp ground fennel seeds
1 tbsp flax seeds as a topping
1 tsp cinnamon powder
1 tsp vanilla
2 tsps organic molasses
1/2 tsp grated nutmeg
1 cup crushed ice or ice cubes
1 cup chocolate almond milk


1. Purée bananas, all powdered ingredients, ice and molasses until there are no chunks left.

2. Add remaining ingredients and pulse for about another minute to get the flavours all melded.

3. Pour yourself a glass, top with flax seeds and drink up!

Non-banana lovers, you can just swap it out for another fruit. Also if you’re not into milky beverages you can also use any unprocessed liquid as a substitute. Water, coconut water squeezed orange juice, etc.
This smoothie tastes great, packs a mean energy punch and will help you to feel energised, increase your mental performance, improve your digestion and strengthens your immune system… Especially with cancer-fighting agents.

It’s also a great mood booster if you have any issues with depression, anxiety or other nervous system disorders like myself. Try it and see, I sure felt great all day.
